The V Kazan International Festival of Muslim Cinema «Golden Minbar» was held in Kazan from the 30^th of September till the 4^th of October in 2009.

400 movies from 67 countries (168 feature films, 138 documentary films, 94 short-length films) were applied to the 5^th «Golden Minbar». Together with permanent participants, such as moviemakers from Iran, Egypt, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Great Britain, Canada, the USA, France, India, Netherlands, Russian Federation, CIS countries, there were movies from Poland, Czech Republic, Chili, Congo, Sudan. The leaders in the amount of sent films were Russian Federation, Egypt and Iran. Among Russian cities the leader was St. Petersburg.

The competitive program consisted of 36 movies: 13 full-length feature films, 14 documentary films and 9 short-length flms. 26 films were selected into out-of-competition program- 8 feature films, 17 nonfiction films, 1 short-length film.

The program of festival involved the round table with the chairman of moviemakers union, actor of theatre and cinema, the producer Nikita Mihalhov, the days of Turkish cinema, the day of cinema of All-Russia State Institute of Cinematography, the festival of amateur cinema «Start», gala demonstration of international competition of fashion gesigners «Islamic-clothes», Gumilev memorial evening, master-classes, creative meetings with participants, press-conferences.

The guests of the festival were Nikita Mihalkov, Armand Assante, Cary Hiroyuki Tagawa, Boris Grachevskii, Nina Ruslanova, Vitaliy Bezrukov, Valeriy Nikolaev, Tatyana Dogileva, Emmanuel Vitorgan, Lev Durov, Valentin Gaft, Alla Surikova, Andrey Noskov, etc.

Applications for accreditation were applied by 187 journalists from 99 MSM: 114 journalists from 52 republican MSM; 54 journalists from 33 federal MSM; 13 journalists from 12 foreign MSM; 6 journalists from 2 international MSM.

The movies were shown in cultural centre «Rodina». The opening and closing ceremonies were traditionally in entertainment complex «Pyramid». The festival movies were also demonstrated at the cinemas «Korston», «Kinomechta», «Mir», «Organic».
