She was born in 1977 in Chandigarh (India) in the family of a military man. She studied in different parts of India and abroad. She graduated from Punjab University in Patiala, has a master's degree in Mathematics and Political Science.

In 1999, Gul Kierath Panaga won the title of «Miss India», participated in the contest «Miss Universe».

Her career in the cinema began in 2003. She became popular after the screening of the film «Thin threads of love», in which she performed the role of Zeenat Fatima.
