He was born in the town of Mugla in 1966 graduated from the Department of Film and Television of Arts University «Dokuz Eylyul» (Dokuz Eylul Universitesi) with a master's degree. He teaches at the School of Communication University of Istanbul.

For the film «Ice cream, I scream ?!» the director was awarded with a special jury prize at the XXV Istanbul Film Festival, Special Jury Prize, Audience Choice Award, a prize «for the best male role» at the XII International Film Festival «Golden Cocoon» in Adana, the prize  «for the best foreign film»  at the festival of comedy films «HBO» («Home Box Office») - U.S. prize in the category «The best director», «The best comedy» at the IV International Film Festival «New York Queens»; prize in the category «A promising director» at the XVIII International Film Festival in Ankara.

The documentary «Underground Kadir ve Sinema ?itesi» of Y?ksel Aksu  won awards at the VII International Festival of Ankara (1995) and at the Festival of Documentary Films in Adana (1995).
